MGK opens up about his journey to sobriety, revealing how his daughter Casie’s heartbreaking words inspired him to quit drugs after years of substance abuse.
Bollywood Fever: MGK, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, has shared an emotional story about how his daughter, Casie, played a pivotal role in his journey to sobriety. In a candid conversation on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the 34-year-old artist revealed that Casie, now 15, was the catalyst for his decision to get clean after years of substance abuse.
“It started with my daughter saying, ‘Dad, you know I can tell when you’re high,’” MGK recalled. “It broke my heart. It was like the ultimate let-down.”

Casie’s revelation came about three or four years ago when she was just 11 or 12 years old, but the impact of her words didn’t hit MGK immediately. “Obviously drugs have a vice grip on you,” he admitted, acknowledging that it took time for him to fully grasp the weight of her statement.
MGK also opened up about the childhood trauma that contributed to his substance abuse, particularly the feelings of shame he carried because he wasn’t the person his father wanted him to be.
In addition to Casie’s influence, MGK credited his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Megan Fox, for being “extremely helpful” during his recovery, especially as he battled “psychological withdrawals” after entering rehab last August.
“I continue to embrace that this journey is gonna be hard for me, but I accept it and forgive myself,” MGK shared during a recent appearance on the Dumb Blonde podcast, where he also celebrated his one-year sober anniversary. Reflecting on his progress, he added, “I’m just happy that I’m able to start to be comfortable enough to show people who I am because I kind of depended on my art to do that.”
MGK’s journey to sobriety is ongoing, but with the support of his daughter and loved ones, he’s learning to navigate life with a renewed sense of self and a commitment to staying clean.
