Nuggets’ Frustration Boils Over in Game 2 Loss to Timberwolves
Jamal Murray‘s frustration boiled over during the Denver Nuggets’ 106-80 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals. The defending NBA champions struggled as the Wolves increased pressure, leading to a 32-point deficit before halftime.
Denver, now trailing 2-0 in the series, faces a tough challenge as they head to Minnesota. Coach Michael Malone acknowledged the embarrassment of the loss and urged his team to improve for the next game.
Murray’s outburst came when he tossed a heat pack onto the court from the bench after a layup by Karl-Anthony Towns. While no call was made on Murray, officials noted that had they known the object came from the bench, a technical foul could have been issued.
Timberwolves coach Chris Finch expressed disappointment with the incident, calling it “inexcusable and dangerous.” Despite Murray’s struggles, shooting 3 of 18 from the floor, the Nuggets have a few days to regroup before Game 3.
Malone’s frustration peaked when he confronted an official about a no-call after Towns scored over Murray. However, he clarified that he was simply defending his player and not being unsportsmanlike.
The Timberwolves’ relentless defense, coupled with the absence of center Rudy Gobert, who was with his partner for the birth of their child, contributed to Denver’s struggles. Nikola Jokic acknowledged the challenge of scoring against Minnesota’s defense, emphasizing their effectiveness.
