Pat Cummins Named SRH Captain for IPL 2024 Season
Bollywoodfever, March 4: “Australian Pace Spearhead Pat Cummins Takes the Reins as Sunrisers Hyderabad Captain for IPL 2024”
In a strategic move ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins has been appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), stepping in to replace Aiden Markram. This decision comes as SRH aims to chart a new course following their disappointing performance in the previous season, where they finished last.

Cricbuzz reports that Cummins emerged as the top choice for the captaincy role following his acquisition by SRH for an impressive INR 20.50 crore during the auction.
The connection with Daniel Vettori, SRH’s newly appointed head coach who also collaborates with Cummins in the Australian cricket team’s coaching setup, played a pivotal role in this decision.
Vettori, tasked with filling the vacancy left by Dale Steyn as the bowling coach, has brought in James Franklin, a former teammate from New Zealand, to complete the coaching ensemble.
Despite Aiden Markram’s success in leading the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to consecutive titles in the SA20 league, SRH’s lackluster campaign in 2023 and Cummins’ rising profile as a leader necessitated the change.
Cummins has already demonstrated his leadership prowess, guiding Australia to victory in the World Test Championship last year and securing a win against India in the ODI World Cup final.
Marking his debut as an IPL captain, Cummins, who previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders, is known for his record-breaking 14-ball fifty, the fastest in the league at the time.
His signing by SRH for over INR 20 crore set a new auction record, which was soon surpassed by KKR’s acquisition of Mitchell Starc for INR 24.75 crore, highlighting the high stakes and expectations in the upcoming IPL season.
