Sean Kingston and Mother Accused of $1 Million Fraud and Theft

Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, are facing serious allegations of fraud and theft amounting to over $1 million, according to a WSVN 7 News report from Friday, May 24. The accusations involve stealing money, jewelry, furniture, and a Cadillac Escalade vehicle.

Court documents obtained by XXL reveal that Kingston’s 61-year-old mother has been charged with multiple offenses, including organizing a scheme to defraud, grand theft, cashing bad checks, and identity theft. She is currently held at the Broward County jail on a $160,000 bond. Kingston faces similar charges.

The charges stem from a SWAT team raid on Thursday, May 23, at Kingston’s rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where Turner was arrested. Kingston was apprehended at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California, following a performance.

The arrest warrants allege that between October and March, the duo stole nearly $500,000 worth of jewelry. Additionally, they are accused of stealing over $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from a Cadillac Escalade dealership, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank, $86,000 from a custom bed manufacturer, and fraudulently using another person’s identity.

“He [Sean Kingston] lures people using his celebrity into having them release things without him paying for it and he simply never pays,” a deputy told WSVN 7 News.

Sean Kingston Behind Bars, Awaiting Extradition

Sean Kingston, born Kisean Paul Anderson, is currently detained at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, California, classified as a fugitive. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 28, where he will likely face extradition proceedings to Florida.

Robert Rosenblatt, the attorney representing Kingston and his mother, told WSVN 7 News, “We look forward to addressing these (charges) in court and are confident of a successful resolution for [Sean] and his mother.”

This is not the first time Kingston and his mother have faced legal issues. In 2015, a watch seller in New York City won a lawsuit against them for $356,000 due to non-payment. In 2018, a New York jeweler successfully sued them for $301,000 for scamming the store out of nine items.

Most recently, in February 2024, a Florida entertainment systems company sued Kingston, claiming he had not paid $120,000 of a $150,000 invoice for a 232-inch television installed in his home. The lawsuit alleges that Kingston falsely promised the owners that he and Justin Bieber would make commercials for them in exchange for a low down payment and credit, but neither the commercials nor the payment materialized. Bieber’s name was used without his involvement.
