Simone Biles Addresses Unwanted Comments About Her Hair During 2024 Olympics

Simone Biles speaks out against comments about her hair during the 2024 Olympics, emphasizing the importance of respecting personal appearance and social etiquette.

Bollywood Fever: While competing in Paris for the 2024 Olympics, USA gymnast Simone Biles encountered an unwelcome comment about her hair during a stifling 45-minute bus ride through the city, which lacked air conditioning.

The 27-year-old took to Instagram to express her frustration, sharing a two-part story where she emphasized that it’s not appropriate to comment on someone’s appearance, particularly in a public setting.

In a recent interview with People.com, Biles delved deeper into the incident, explaining why she felt compelled to educate her followers on proper social etiquette.

“We were on the bus, and it was 97 degrees, and we were sweating bullets,” Biles recalled. “I’d just freshly pressed out my edges, and I was like, ‘Oh God, I just know they’re going to want to start with my hair, so I’m going to set the record straight.’”

Biles pointed out that everyone has different hair textures and preferences for how they like to wear their hair. “Whenever I’m [competing], I know my hair is crazy.

My gymnastics: clean, hair: messy. [Even if] my hair is all over the place, I’m still performing because that’s not what I’m worried about when I’m on a world stage. And if you don’t like it, you don’t like it.”

She emphasized that it’s perfectly fine for an athlete’s hair to be messy, especially given the physical demands of their sport.

Biles also shared her disappointment that comments about her hair often come from within the Black community. “

We know how hard and how annoying and irritating that is, so why would you go and comment on another girl? It’s beyond me, but it doesn’t really bother me like it did whenever I was younger because I know when I need to pop out and look right, then I’m going to look right.”

With her candid remarks, Biles continues to use her platform to advocate for self-acceptance and respect for others, encouraging people to think twice before making comments about someone else’s appearance.
