Tadej Pogacar delivered a breathtaking performance with a solo attack to secure his victory at Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday, marking the sixth Monument win of his career. Representing UAE Team Emirates, Pogacar launched his decisive move with 34km left in the 254km race, breaking away on the challenging Cote de la Redoute. He managed to finish a significant one minute and 39 seconds ahead of Romain Bardet, while Mathieu van der Poel clinched third place in a sprint finish.

This victory not only added a second Liege title to Pogacar’s achievements but also served as redemption for the setbacks he faced in the previous years. Last year, he endured a crash and in the 2022 edition, he withdrew due to a personal tragedy.

“It was quite emotional for me all day riding on the bike, thinking of Urska’s mother two years ago and we had to go home,” Pogacar recounted. “Then last year when I broke my hand so the last two years were really difficult.”

Pogacar explained that the strategy for his attack on the Cote de la Redoute was pre-planned. “We rode hard on the climbs, and safe on the downhills and on La Redoute — we did exactly what we said and from then on it was suffering to the finish,” he stated. This meticulously executed plan led him to a triumphant finish, overcoming past adversities with a stellar performance.
