Transport Ministry Reports Over 30 Fatalities in Mali Bus Collision
Bollywoodfever, February 27: On Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred in Mali when a bus veered off a bridge and into a river near Kenieba, a town in the west, resulting in the death of at least 31 individuals, according to the transport ministry.
The bus was on its way to Burkina Faso when the mishap took place around 5:00 PM local time.
Among the deceased were Malians and nationals from other countries in the West African subregion.
The transport ministry attributed the accident to the driver’s inability to maintain control of the vehicle.
West Africa often witnesses road accidents due to the prevalence of overburdened public transport systems and lax safety regulations.
According to U.N. statistics from 2023, Africa represents approximately 25% of global traffic fatalities, despite having just 2% of the world’s total number of vehicles.
