Anne Hathaway’s Awkward Moment on ‘The Tonight Show’ Over Book Discussion
Anne Hathaway‘s appearance on “The Tonight Show” took an awkward turn when she discovered that the audience hadn’t read the book that her new film, “The Idea of You,” is based on.

During her interview with host Jimmy Fallon on Monday, Hathaway, known for her roles in “Les Misérables” and “Interstellar,” asked, “Has anybody here read the book?” The room fell silent, prompting Fallon to joke, “No, we don’t read. This is ‘The Tonight Show.’ You want to go to Stephen Colbert if you want to get people to read books. Lame!”
“We do Audible here,” Fallon added, lightening the moment.
Hathaway seemed embarrassed but quickly regained her composure, jokingly asking, “What’s a book?” She laughed and covered her face before continuing the conversation.
Fans praised Hathaway’s handling of the situation, with one commenting, “This is seriously so funny I can’t stop thinking about it. Anne is fighting for her life up there and handling it like a pro.” Another fan noted, “Her actual shock in that moment is so good.”
