Angel Reese Sets WNBA Record for Most Consecutive Double-Doubles in Rookie Season

Angel Reese Faces Fine for Technical Fouls in WNBA, Maintaining Her Outspoken Style

Angel Reese, Chicago Sky forward, sets a new WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles in her rookie season, surpassing Candace Parker’s record.

United States, Bollywood Fever: Angel Reese has made WNBA history just 17 games into her rookie season. The Chicago Sky forward set a league record for the most consecutive games with a double-double during a single season in Sunday’s 70–62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx.

Reese scored 10 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, achieving double figures in both categories for the 10th straight game. This impressive feat surpasses Candace Parker’s record of nine consecutive double-doubles set in 2015 with the Los Angeles Sparks.

Remarkably, Reese set this record at just 22 years old. In contrast, Parker was 29 and in her eighth season when she set the previous record.

With 1:01 remaining in the game, Reese needed three points to secure a double-double. She twice rebounded her own missed shots in the paint, finally scoring with 40.1 seconds left. Reese then drew a loose ball foul with 23 seconds on the clock, earning two free throws. Despite missing the first, she made the second, clinching the record.

“Just proud of her. Proud of what she does,” Sky coach Teresa Witherspoon said after the game. “I’m sure she would say the win was more important. She’s going to continue doing what she does. It’s who she is. She’s going to always come out and play hard and confident, and give you everything she has. She’s the hardest person on herself. I’m proud of her and what she continues to do.”

Chennedy Carter led the Sky with 15 points, followed by Lindsay Allen’s 13. Fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso added 10 rebounds. Chicago was outscored 18–5 in the fourth quarter, dropping their record to 6–11 with the loss.

The Lynx improved to 14–4, tying the Connecticut Sun for the league’s second-best record. Minnesota was led by Kayla McBride’s 16 points. Napheesa Collier contributed 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

While Parker still holds the WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles overall with 12, set between the 2009 and 2010 seasons, that milestone is now within reach for Reese.

Reese had previously set the rookie record with seven consecutive double-doubles when she scored 16 points and grabbed 18 rebounds on June 20 against the Dallas Wings, breaking the record set by Tina Charles in 2010 and Cindy Brown in 1998.

The WNBA rookie record for total double-doubles in a season is 22, held by Charles. After Sunday’s performance, Reese has 11 double-doubles with 23 games remaining.

Next, the Sky will face the Atlanta Dream on the road on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET), while the Lynx travel to New York for a Tuesday night clash against the Liberty (7 p.m. ET).
