Arch Manning dazzles with five touchdowns in relief of injured Quinn Ewers as Texas secures a 56-7 win over UTSA. Manning’s Heisman odds surge after his breakout performance.
BollywoodFever: Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian may have mixed emotions following Saturday’s commanding 56-7 victory over UTSA.
While thrilled with the win, Sarkisian now faces uncertainty at the quarterback position after starting QB Quinn Ewers left the game in the second quarter with an abdomen injury.
In Ewers’ absence, sophomore quarterback Arch Manning delivered a breakout performance, electrifying the home crowd at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Manning tallied 276 total yards (223 passing, 53 rushing) and accounted for five touchdowns—four through the air and one on the ground.
Manning’s stellar play immediately caught the attention of fans and oddsmakers alike. According to Brian Davis of A to Z Sports, Manning’s Heisman Trophy odds skyrocketed during the game, moving from 150-to-1 before kickoff to 20-to-1 by the fourth quarter.
In contrast, Ewers saw his odds drop from +500 to +1200 on DraftKings, while FanDuel removed Heisman odds for Ewers entirely.
It’s unclear if Ewers’ injury is season-ending, but Manning’s performance suggests Texas may not experience much of a setback.
In two appearances this season, Manning has completed 14 of 18 passes for 318 yards, five passing touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns, showcasing his ability to lead the Longhorns moving forward.
