Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Mickey 17’ Makes a Comeback with a Fresh Release Date in 2025
The eagerly anticipated return of “Mickey 17” to the big screen has been officially announced.Â
Directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon Ho, the film is now slated to premiere on January 31, 2025, as confirmed by Warner Bros. on Tuesday.
Previously scheduled for March 29, 2024, the movie was temporarily taken off the release calendar due to production disruptions caused by strikes.
The absence of a trailer as the original date approached fueled speculation about a potential delay, which was ultimately confirmed.
Starring Robert Pattinson, “Mickey 17” is based on the 2022 novel “Mickey 7” by Edward Ashton. The story revolves around Mickey 7, a space colonist designated as expendable, essentially a role filled by clones who undertake dangerous missions.
Ashton’s sequel, “Antimatter Blues,” was released last year. Bong Joon Ho is expected to infuse his distinctive style into the adaptation, with a cast including Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
Produced by Plan B Entertainment, with involvement from Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company and Bong’s Offscreen, Inc. banner, “Mickey 17” promises to offer a fresh take on its source material.
