Colin Cowherd dubs Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes the “Fake ID of College Football” following struggles in 2024, including a blowout loss to Nebraska and internal team turmoil.
Bollywood Fever: Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have been making headlines in college football this year, but not for the right reasons. From Coach Prime’s refusal to engage with certain media members to his son, quarterback Shadeur Sanders, appearing to blame his own offensive line for the team’s struggles, the atmosphere in Boulder has soured.
Following a blowout loss to rival Nebraska in Week 2, Fox Sports‘ Colin Cowherd has given the Buffs a harsh new nickname: The Fake ID of College Football. This moniker, previously reserved for the Iowa Hawkeyes due to their reputation as a “poser” team, has now been applied to Sanders’ squad.
“It’s time for a new fake ID of college football,” Cowherd said on The Herd. “Somebody who is talking a big game, a little thirsty, but not of legal age — kind of a poser. I think it’s Colorado. Deion Sanders is the new fake ID of college football.”
After starting strong in 2023 with a 3-0 record, the Buffs’ season took a downward turn, finishing at 4-8. High expectations for the 2024 season have quickly faded with a shaky Week 1 win over North Dakota State and a 28-10 loss to Nebraska.
Cowherd went further with his criticism, comparing Colorado to Iowa: “At least Iowa could hold their liquor. These guys are vomiting over themselves after a margarita.” He emphasized Colorado’s poor performance, pointing out that the team has lost seven straight games to FBS teams and currently runs one of the worst offenses in college football.
With a tough schedule ahead, including Big 12 matchups against Baylor, Kansas State, UCF, and Arizona, the road won’t get any easier for the Buffaloes. While a win against Colorado State this weekend is expected, the pressure on Coach Prime and his team is mounting.
Despite the turmoil, Deion Sanders is known for his bold personality, and he will undoubtedly continue to speak out. Whether people keep listening, however, remains to be seen.
