Emma Stone is set to star in an untitled Universal film directed by her husband, Dave McCary, based on an original screenplay by “Young Rock” producers. Details remain under wraps as the couple collaborates on this anticipated project.
Emma Stone and her husband Dave McCary are collaborating on a new project for Universal, with Stone set to star and McCary directing. The project, still untitled, is based on an original spec screenplay by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin, who are known for their work on “Young Rock.” While specific details about the film remain confidential, anticipation is building around this creative pairing.
The film will be produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine of 21 Laps, along with Michael H. Weber. Additionally, the couple is in discussions to produce the project through their company, Fruit Tree, alongside Ali Herting.
Stone is coming off her recent Oscar win for Best Actress in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” marking her second win after “La La Land” in 2017. Her celebrated filmography includes roles in “The Favourite,” “The Help,” “Easy A,” and “The Amazing Spider-Man.” She has also recently served as an executive producer on “The Curse” and will soon work again with Lanthimos in the upcoming film “Kinds of Kindness.”
McCary, a versatile writer, director, and producer, has credits that include “A Real Pain,” “Problemista,” and “The Curse.” He made his directorial debut with “Brigsy Bear” and spent five seasons with “Saturday Night Live,” where he first met Stone in 2016.
The project will be overseen by Universal’s senior executive vice president of production development, Erik Baiers, and creative executive Jacqueline Garell. Stone and McCary are represented by WME, Anonymous Content, The Lede Company, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, Mosaic, and Myman Greenspan, respectively.
