Glen Powell Defends Ryan Gosling Amid Claims of Greater Audience Appeal

Glen Powell responds to claims that he has broader audience appeal than Ryan Gosling, standing up for his fellow actor and reflecting on his own rising career.

Bollywood Fever: Glen Powell recently addressed claims comparing his audience appeal to that of Ryan Gosling, standing up for his fellow “Ken” in the process.

The 35-year-old actor reacted to an article from The Wrap, where an “unnamed producer” dubbed Powell the “biggest up-and-coming movie star,” comparing his career to Gosling’s.

The producer noted, “Unlike an actor like Ryan Gosling, whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences, Glen appeals to both females and males.”

Remaining humble in the face of the flattering comparison, Powell shared the article on X, adding, “Gosling is a legend. I’m just Glen.”

Fans quickly responded to Powell’s post, praising his humility and support for Gosling. “Humble considerate King, this is why you’ll always be famous,” one fan commented, while another added, “Two great people can coexist.

Commendable standing up for Ryan.” Another user joked about the steamy photos of Powell accompanying the article, saying, “Who knew that the opinion of an ‘unnamed Hollywood producer’ and a photo of you would cause such a ruckus.”

Powell’s reference to Gosling comes in the wake of the latter’s success in the 2023 blockbuster Barbie, where Gosling starred as Ken.

The film, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office, earned Gosling critical acclaim, including nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

His performance in the film’s hit musical number “I’m Just Ken” also garnered accolades, including a win for Best Song at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Meanwhile, Powell’s career continues to soar following his successes in Twisters and Anyone But You. He has signed on to star in the Hulu comedy Chad Powers and a highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man. Production for The Running Man is set to begin in November, and the story follows Ben Richards, a man desperate for money to treat his daughter’s illness, who enters a deadly game show for a chance at a billion-dollar prize.

Reflecting on his recent rise to stardom, Powell told Sharp Magazine that his success has been a long time coming, having started his career with a role in 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. “I’ve been doing this a long time, and this is the first time where I can definitely feel a shift,” Powell said in an interview published on August 26. He expressed gratitude for his current success and emphasized that he doesn’t take any of it for granted.

The Top Gun: Maverick star also acknowledged the challenges of making it as a full-time actor, calling it a “miracle” to be able to “pay the bills” and “survive” in the industry. “You never forget how people treated you,” Powell noted. “It’s why I feel this insane sense of gratitude right now. I don’t take any of this for granted—at all.”
