Real Housewives of Potomac’ Celebrity Karen Huger Faces DUI Charges Following Vehicle Collision
Karen Huger, famed for her role in ‘The Real Housewives of Potomac,’ faces charges of DUI and DWI after her 2017 Maserati was involved in an accident in Maryland. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, with court documents revealing Huger was apprehended by the Montgomery County Police Department shortly before midnight.
Charged with both driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while impaired by alcohol, Huger is now required to appear in court. The television star also confronts several additional accusations, ranging from negligent and reckless driving to exceeding speed limits and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration.
In response to inquiries, ET sought comments from Huger’s representative, Bravo, and the Montgomery County Police Department. The police department acknowledged the crash, describing how Huger’s car crossed a median and struck several street signs, though she did not sustain injuries. According to reports from TMZ, police suggested Huger was driving recklessly prior to the crash, leading to multiple citations being issued, although she was not arrested at the scene.
Huger shared with TMZ her appreciation for the support she’s received, connecting her emotional state before the crash to the recent loss of her mother, Georgia Raines Wooden. She detailed a near-collision experience that led to her accident, emphasizing her gratitude for surviving and the importance of recognizing one’s emotional condition while driving.
“Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience. I am still in shock from last night’s incident, but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mothers Day approaching it has felt more like a tsunami,” Huger said. “Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider and then a tree. I’m hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive! I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident which is understandable, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!”
Huger calls for awareness about the emotional states of drivers and the significance of safety measures like seatbelts in her concluding remarks, stressing the role of her seatbelt in saving her life during the ordeal.
