Pokimane Criticizes Parents Exploiting Kids for TikTok Social Media Views

Twitch streamer Pokimane criticized parents who exploit their children for TikTok content, accusing them of disregarding their children’s mental well-being.

During a May 21 episode of her ‘don’t tell anyone’ podcast, Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys discussed aspects of social media she finds distasteful, particularly targeting parents who use their kids for clicks.

Parents managing family channels have long been a controversial topic, and Pokimane argued that these parents prioritize profits over their children’s welfare.

Are you really a parent if you’re being so goddamn irresponsible

She questioned, “Are you really a parent if you’re being so goddamn irresponsible?” Pokimane highlighted instances where parents click-bait their children in inappropriate ways, such as involving sensitive body parts or presenting food in suggestive shapes.

Pokimane also criticized parents who adopt a “momager mode” to boost their kids’ accounts by creating viral videos for them. She asserted that these parents prioritize fame, viewership, and audience over their child’s mental well-being or future.

In 2021, a family vlogger faced backlash for asking her son to cry for a YouTube thumbnail, prompting accusations of exploiting her emotionally distressed child for views.

Anys also mentioned an Instagram account featuring a young girl with an eating disorder trying various foods, with each video garnering millions of views. While the parent claims this content raises awareness about the disorder, some comments on the videos raise concerns.

Pokimane emphasized the need for caution when posting content involving children, stressing that it should be so innocuous that there is virtually no chance the child might regret it in the future.

She concluded by stating, “I don’t give a f**k how many dollars you make from TikTok views. You’re selling your kids’ mental well-being for a few 100 bucks? Dislike.”

Despite these criticisms, there are instances of children going viral organically, becoming internet sensations, as seen earlier in May when a “fully conscious baby” captured hearts with her excited reaction about visiting the Four Seasons Orlando hotel.
