Prime Video to Feature Roger Federer Documentary Directed by Asif Kapadia

Amazon’s Prime Video has enlisted Asif Kapadia to helm a feature documentary centered on Roger Federer.

Known for his work on acclaimed documentaries like “Amy” and “Senna,” Kapadia will team up with co-director Joe Sabia to chronicle Federer’s final 12 days in the professional tennis arena.

The documentary is set to be exclusively available for streaming on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Described as a personal home video never intended for public consumption, the film will provide an intimate look at Federer bidding farewell to the sport and his fans.

It will feature interviews with tennis luminaries and close friends, such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray, offering insights into Federer’s storied career and relationships within the sports world.

Reflecting on the project, Federer revealed, “Initially, the idea was to capture the final moments of my professional tennis career so that I could have it later on to show my family and friends.”

The tennis legend, who retired from professional tennis in 2022 at the age of 41 after clinching 20 Grand Slam titles over two decades, acknowledged his usual reluctance to be filmed during personal moments but saw value in documenting this significant transition.

Kapadia, celebrated for his documentary work on figures like Amy Winehouse and Diego Maradona, brings his expertise to this project.

His debut fiction feature, “The Warrior,” starring the late Irrfan Khan, showcases his versatility as a filmmaker.

Additionally, Kapadia served as the series director and executive producer on the Apple TV+ series “1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything.”

Produced under the banner of Lafcadia Productions, the untitled Roger Federer documentary is helmed by Kapadia and George Chignell.
