Twins Announce Carlos Correa’s Return to Lineup After Two-Month Injury Absence

Carlos Correa is set to return to the Minnesota Twins lineup on Saturday after missing two months with plantar fasciitis. The Twins hope his comeback boosts their playoff push.

BollywoodFever: Despite a loss to the Cincinnati Reds, the Minnesota Twins had reason to celebrate on Friday night as they announced the return of shortstop Carlos Correa to the lineup on Saturday.

Correa has been sidelined for over two months due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, last playing on July 12.

Twins management delivered the update following Friday’s game at Target Field. In a corresponding roster move, the team is optioning outfielder DaShawn Keirsey to their Triple-A affiliate, the St. Paul Saints.

Correa, who has been rehabbing by taking swings at Target Field and facing live pitching in High-A Cedar Rapids, mentioned earlier this week that a new treatment regimen has accelerated his recovery.

The 29-year-old had been in top form prior to his injury, slashing .308/.377/.520 with an OPS of .896, along with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs across 75 games. Correa earned an All-Star selection but was unable to play due to his injury.

The Twins also welcomed back center fielder Byron Buxton on Friday, who returned with a bang, hitting a home run after being out for a month with a hip injury.

Currently 5.5 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central Division and 2.5 games back from the Kansas City Royals for the second AL Wild Card spot, the Twins are aiming for a playoff push with Correa back in the lineup.

They also hold a 2.5-game lead over the Detroit Tigers for the final AL Wild Card spot.

Correa is scheduled to return on Saturday when the Twins face the Reds at Target Field. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m.
