Ice Cube’s BIG3 Basketball League Faces Breach of Contract Lawsuit from Former Attorney
Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league is facing a lawsuit from its former attorney, Lawrence C. Hinkle II, for breach of contract. According to legal documents, Hinkle alleges that the organization failed to pay for his legal services and is seeking compensation through a Quantum Meruit complaint.
Hinkle claims that Ice Cube recruited him in May 2022 at the draft for BIG3’s 2022 season. He was hired to provide legal services for the league at a rate of $700 per hour, with an advance payment of $10,000.
While Hinkle received the advance payment, he asserts that the principal balance of $21,690 for his services in July was not paid by the agreed-upon date of August 5, leading to a series of unpaid wages.

Despite repeated attempts to contact BIG3 representatives for his payment from September 2022 to May 2024, Hinkle claims he was not paid. Even after alerting Ice Cube of the situation, the rapper allegedly ignored his follow-up emails.
Hinkle argues that BIG3’s claims of financial difficulties are unfounded, pointing to public announcements by Ice Cube about the league’s financial offers to college athletes and the sale of one of its teams for $10,000,000.
In response, BIG3 co-founder Jeff Kwatinetz accused Hinkle of malpractice without specifying the nature of the alleged malpractice. Hinkle denies any wrongdoing and plans to prove his innocence in court.
The lawsuit also highlights BIG3’s offer of $5,000,000 to NCAA star Caitlin Clark to join the league, which Ice Cube confirmed on Instagram. The rapper defended the offer, stating that Clark could make history and break barriers for women athletes in the league.
