After a single season with the University of Southern California, marked by a challenging recovery from cardiac arrest, Bronny James has decided to enter the NBA draft. The 19-year-old, son of basketball icon LeBron James, shared his decision on Instagram, noting his intention to maintain his college eligibility while exploring his options in the transfer portal.
Reflecting on his year at USC, Bronny expressed, “It’s been a year of both challenges and growth, shaping me as an individual, a student, and an athlete.”
His announcement came just before USC’s announcement of Eric Musselman as the new head coach, succeeding Andy Enfield, who recently took a position at SMU.
LeBron James, discussing his son’s future, emphasized Bronny’s independence in making his life decisions, ensuring the family’s support regardless of his path.
During his time with the Trojans, Bronny, starting in six of the 25 games he played, averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. His performance statistics included a 37% field goal rate, 27% from beyond the arc, and 68% from the free-throw line.
LeBron, alongside his wife and their 9-year-old daughter, was a constant presence at USC’s games, cheering from the sidelines. At 39, LeBron openly dreams of sharing the NBA court with his son.

Bronny, a 6-foot-4 guard, made a late debut on December 10 due to his health recovery. He briefly addressed the media post-game to thank the medical team and support staff who aided his comeback. Despite numerous requests, he did not engage in further media interactions during the season.
Bronny’s health scare on July 20, triggered by a congenital heart defect during a workout, was a significant hurdle he has since overcome, ready to take the next step in his basketball career.
