Caitlin Clark Blocks Antonio Brown on Social Media Amid Eventful Debut Week with Indiana Fever

Sports

Caitlin Clark, the recent Indiana Fever signee and all-time leading scorer in Division I basketball, has had a whirlwind week that included the WNBA draft, a “Saturday Night Live” appearance, and a notable interaction with an Indianapolis sports columnist. Adding to her eventful week, Clark blocked former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown on the social media platform X.

Brown, who is known for his controversial behavior, had commented on Clark’s appearance in a post earlier in the week. Following his comments, he shared a screenshot on Thursday revealing that Clark had blocked him. Despite this, Brown continued to post about Clark, focusing again on her appearance.

The week also saw Clark navigate an uncomfortable moment during her introductory press conference with Indy Star columnist Gregg Doyel, who awkwardly mimicked Clark’s signature heart hand gesture towards her. The exchange escalated when Doyel suggested, “Start doing it to me and we’ll get along just fine.” This comment was not well-received, leading to significant backlash on social media against Doyel, who later issued an apology.

“Today in my uniquely oafish way, while welcoming @CaitlinClark22 to Indy, I formed my hands into her signature [heart hands],” Doyel posted on X. “My comment afterward was clumsy and awkward. I sincerely apologize. Please know my heart (literally and figuratively) was well-intentioned. I will do better.”

Through all the highs and lows of her debut week, Clark remains positive about her burgeoning professional career. “I think the biggest thing I’m trying to remember is how grateful I am to have this opportunity. You know there’s so many people who would kill to be in my shoes,” she remarked. “When things seem like they’re long, you’re tired and you feel like I have to do this, I have to do that, I try to remind myself how grateful I am to get these opportunities. I’m lucky to have these moments.”
