Disney’s Alien: Romulus Poised to Dominate Box Office, It Ends With Us Set to Be Blake Lively’s Biggest Hit

Disney’s Alien: Romulus is expected to lead the box office with a projected $18M, while It Ends With Us is set to become Blake Lively’s highest-grossing film, surpassing Green Lantern.

Bollywood Fever: Disney is expected to claim the No. 1 spot at the box office for the ninth time this summer, with their 20th Century Studios’ release Alien: Romulus projected to edge out Deadpool & Wolverine in its fifth weekend, $18M to $17M.

As of Tuesday, the Fede Alvarez-directed Alien: Romulus has accumulated a running total of $50.6M at the box office.

Meanwhile, It Ends With Us, from Sony/Wayfarer Studios, is on track to become Blake Lively’s highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, surpassing Green Lantern ($116.6M).

The romance drama, directed by Justin Baldoni and starring Lively, is expected to pull in around $13M in its opening weekend, not counting her secret cameo in D&W.

"Alien: Romulus" Scares Up $108.2 Million in Global Box Office Debut

These holdovers are set to outpace three new wide releases, all of which are expected to debut with single-digit millions.

Despite the summer’s overindexing trends, these films are not expected to defy tracking predictions due to the late August timing, as many are in back-to-school mode.

According to Comscore, 33% of K-12 students and 58% of college students are still on break.

Amazon MGM Studios is releasing Blink Twice, a thriller directed by Zoë Kravitz and starring Channing Tatum.

However, the film isn’t anticipated to achieve Tatum-sized opening numbers (double digits plus).

The movie, which was greenlit under the previous MGM administration led by Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, follows tech billionaire Slater King (Tatum) and cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) on a mysterious private island where Frida must uncover the truth to survive.

The film also features Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan, and Geena Davis. Critics have responded positively, giving it an 80% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lionsgate is releasing a reboot of The Crow, starring Bill Skarsgård, who is known for his roles in It and John Wick: Chapter 4

However, the reboot is projected to open with less ($6M-$9M) than the original 1994 Brandon Lee film, which debuted with $11.7M.

Directed by Rupert Sanders and based on the original graphic novel by James O’Barr, The Crow follows Eric (Skarsgård) as he seeks revenge on those who brutally murdered him and his soulmate Shelly (FKA twigs).

The movie was produced by Edward R. Pressman, Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, John Jencks, and Samuel Hadida and was initially set to release on June 7 before Bad Boys: Ride or Die took over that spot.

Sony is also releasing the faith-based film The Forge, directed by Alex Kendrick, in approximately 1,700 theaters.

The movie follows Isaiah, a young man who receives a push to start making better life decisions after graduating from high school with no plans for the future.
