Comedian Eddie Murphy and Australian model Paige Butcher tie the knot in a private ceremony in Anguilla. The couple, engaged since 2018, share two children together.
Bollywood Fever: Wedding bells are ringing for Eddie Murphy, as the celebrated comedian has married Australian model Paige Butcher in an intimate ceremony. The couple exchanged vows on Tuesday, July 9, in Anguilla, surrounded by family and close friends, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
People magazine, which shared exclusive photos from the event, reported that Murphy and Butcher’s wedding was a private affair. The couple, who got engaged in September 2018 after six years of dating, have been together since 2012. They share an 8-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, having welcomed their first child in 2016 and their second child in 2018.
Murphy, a father of 10, acknowledged his large family during his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, saying, “I want to say thank you to Paige and all of my amazing children for your love and support and inspiration.”

This wedding marks Murphy’s second marriage and Butcher’s first. Murphy’s previous marriage was to Nicole Mitchell, with whom he shares five children.
Murphy’s nuptials come amidst his return to the iconic role of Axel Foley in the new installment of Beverly Hills Cop, titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The film, which premiered on Netflix on July 3, sees Murphy’s character returning to Beverly Hills after his daughter’s life is threatened. He teams up with new partner Detective Bobby Abbott (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and reunites with old friends John Taggart (John Ashton) and Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) to uncover a conspiracy.
During an appearance on the Today show, Murphy joked about reprising his famous role, saying, “It felt like old man. I did Beverly Hills Cop when I was 21, and I’m 63 now.” Reflecting on the character’s enduring appeal, he added, “Beverly Hills Cop was my first movie that I’m the lead in. If I travel overseas, they call me Axel Foley. Axel is an everyman. He’s not a superhero or a super-cop; he’s the everyman that rises to the occasion. I think that’s why people like it. And more than anything, he’s funny.”
