Idris Elba Reflects on Being Asked to Leave Robert De Niro’s Offices During His Teenage Acting Years at SAG Awards

Los Angeles, Bollywoodfever, February 24: Idris Elba kicked off the 2024 SAG Awards with a nostalgic tale from his early days as an aspiring actor, sharing his daring attempt to visit Robert De Niro’s offices in Tribeca when he was just 19 years old.

Recounting the incident during the “I Am an Actor” segment, Elba admitted to using his “English charm” to bluff his way past security and reception, claiming he had an appointment for auditions for Martin Scorsese’s classic film “A Bronx Tale,” although he hadn’t actually been invited.

However, Elba’s bravado didn’t land him a role; instead, he humorously revealed that he was promptly ejected from the office by De Niro’s producing partner at the time.

Despite the rejection, Elba interpreted the encounter as a sign of encouragement, believing it signaled his potential for success in the industry.

Other actors also shared memorable anecdotes during the segment, including Michael Cera reflecting on bonding with adult co-stars as a child actor and Hannah Waddingham recounting a bizarre discovery of a mouse carcass in her costume after unknowingly performing with it on London’s West End during multiple shows of “Spamalot.

At the awards ceremony, “Oppenheimer” and “The Bear” emerged as the top winners, each securing three trophies. The event was streamed live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
