Kristen Stewart ‘Will Likely Never Do a Marvel Movie’
BollywoodFever, March 28: Kristen Stewart has made it clear that joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t on her agenda.
Despite her familiarity with high-profile projects, such as her roles in the “Twilight” saga and “Snow White and the Huntsman,” she shared on the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast that major shifts in the studio system or Greta Gerwig helming a Marvel film would be prerequisites for her involvement.
Stewart expressed her reservations bluntly: “I will likely never do a Marvel movie … it sounds like a fucking nightmare, actually,” despite her appreciation for starring in blockbuster films for their wide audience reach.
Amanda Hirsch, the podcast’s host, speculated that Stewart might have fit the role of Mary Jane Watson, Spider-Man’s love interest, at some point.
However, Stewart insists on a significant overhaul of the current system for her to consider a Marvel project, criticizing the lack of personal touch in these massive productions: “You would have to put so much money and so much trust into one person … and it doesn’t happen,” she explained. Stewart left a sliver of hope, suggesting her stance could change if the industry evolves or if Greta Gerwig proposed a Marvel project to her.
Over the past decade, Stewart has gravitated towards independent films, garnering critical praise. Her recent work includes starring in the A24 crime thriller “Love Lies Bleeding,” currently showing in theaters. Stewart’s early career breakthrough came with David Fincher’s “Panic Room” at Sony Pictures, alongside Jodie Foster, who continues to be a guiding figure in her career. Foster recently remarked to Elle magazine that superhero films are merely a trend that has overstayed its welcome, acknowledging only a few standouts like “Iron Man” and “Black Panther” for their entertainment value but noting they haven’t impacted her personally or professionally.
