Sabrina Carpenter Tops Billboard Hot 100 with Please Please Please, Overcoming Critics

Sabrina Carpenter’s single “Please Please Please” reaches No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing her previous hit “Espresso.” Carpenter celebrates her success and silences critics.

Bollywood Fever: Don’t doubt Sabrina Carpenter. On Monday, the singer achieved a career milestone by reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her single “Please Please Please.” She celebrated the achievement by posting a photo of the announcement on social media, accompanied by a negative comment she had previously received about the song. The critic wrote, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone fumble a second single this hard. My goodness.” However, he later retracted his words, congratulating Carpenter with, “Congrats diva! Made me eat my words!”

Carpenter responded to the news with a humble caption, “ohhhh,” accompanied by four crying emojis, and added, “I’m a grateful grateful grateful girl.”

Carpenter’s pride in her accomplishment is well-founded. “Please Please Please” has outperformed her previous single, “Espresso,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and still holds the fourth position this week. This marks Carpenter’s first song to top the chart. Since 2015, she has released five albums, with her latest, Short n’ Sweet—which includes both “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”—set to release on August 23.

The significance of “Please Please Please” extends beyond its chart-topping success. The song’s music video features Carpenter’s real-life love, actor Barry Keoghan. In the video, the Girl Meets World alum and the Saltburn star portray lovebirds who meet under unusual circumstances: she is leaving prison as he begins his sentence. Their romance continues as she visits and eventually picks him up upon his release.

Carpenter and Keoghan confirmed their relationship publicly at the high-profile Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in March.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Carpenter reflected on her musical journey and recent successes, revealing her unwavering confidence in her career. “I’m literally just annoying,” she said with a laugh. “I never had the plan B, and it wasn’t even a thought in my mind that it wouldn’t work out. I just always knew it was about not if it would happen but when it would happen.”

Sabrina Carpenter’s rise to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with “Please Please Please” not only marks a personal triumph but also silences her critics, proving that her persistence and talent are undeniable.
