Vinicius Jr Criticizes Copa America Pitches and Referees After Brazil's Win Over Paraguay

Following Brazil’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay, Vinicius Jr. criticizes the quality of pitches and referees at Copa America, calling out organizers CONMEBOL for their treatment of teams.

Bollywood Fever: Vinicius Jr. has voiced his frustrations regarding the quality of pitches and referees at the Copa America, directing his criticism towards organizers CONMEBOL after Brazil’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay.

The Real Madrid winger, who scored twice in Friday’s match in Las Vegas, helped Brazil secure four points, positioning them two points behind Group D leaders Colombia and on course for the quarterfinals.

“The Copa America is always difficult because of the pitches, because of the referees – who always go against us – and because of the way CONMEBOL treats people,” the 23-year-old said following his standout performance. “It’s always difficult, but we have to stay strong. We can only talk by winning. When we talk, CONMEBOL say we talk too much.”

Vinicius, who has faced criticism for Brazil’s lackluster start in the Copa America, wasn’t alone in expressing dissatisfaction with the tournament’s playing conditions. Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni also lamented the quality of the pitch at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta after Lionel Messi and the team faced Canada in the Copa America opener, describing the field as “not suitable for this kind of players.” Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez echoed these sentiments, calling the pitch a “disaster.”

Brazil manager Dorival Jr. praised Vinicius for his “almost perfect” display against Paraguay, but the winger’s performance did not sit well with the opposition. “[Vinicius] has a way of playing which is not easy for opponents to accept,” Paraguay manager Daniel Garnero remarked. “That’s why the referee is there… the referee has to impose those limits,” he added, taking a swipe at Copa America officials.

Brazil’s next match against Colombia will determine the winner of Group D, while Paraguay has already been eliminated ahead of their final group game against Costa Rica. Costa Rica can advance with a win over Paraguay, a Brazil defeat, and a six-goal swing in their favor to surpass Brazil’s current four goals scored. Costa Rica has yet to score in the tournament.
