Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meets with Donald Trump in New York as tensions rise over differing views on Ukraine’s defense against Russia. Trump suggests ending US involvement, while Zelensky calls for continued support.
BollywoodFever: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with former US President Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York on Friday, as tensions mount between the two over the war in Ukraine.
The highly anticipated meeting comes amid differing views on how to handle Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion.
“I think we have a common view that the war in Ukraine has to be stopped and Putin can’t win,” Zelensky said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders arrived together at the conference room, with Trump commenting, “The fact that we’re even together today is a very good sign.”
This meeting comes a day after Vice President Kamala Harris met with Zelensky, reiterating unwavering US support for Ukraine.
The contrasting positions between Trump and Harris are in the spotlight as Election Day nears, with Ukraine being a critical issue in US foreign policy.
Trump has recently praised Russia’s historic military victories and voiced his stance that the US should disengage from its involvement with Ukraine. “Any deal — the worst deal — would’ve been better than what we have now,” Trump said, suggesting Ukraine should have made concessions to Russia earlier.
Zelensky, however, has criticized Trump’s views, particularly in an interview with The New Yorker, where he suggested Trump oversimplifies the conflict.
He also called Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, “too radical” for advocating that Ukraine should cede territory to Russia.
The meeting with Trump almost didn’t happen, despite prior planning during Zelensky’s visit to the UN General Assembly.
As the war enters its third year, the Ukrainian leader continues to rally support from allies for his country’s defense.
While Trump and Vance have expressed skepticism over the US backing Ukraine, other Republicans, as well as Vice President Harris, have defended the ongoing support. Harris described Trump’s approach as not peace proposals but “proposals for surrender,” while Trump insisted he wasn’t advocating for Ukraine’s surrender.
