Charli XCX Premieres Tribute Song for Sophie at Billboard’s Women in Music Awards

Bollywoodfever, March 7: Before taking the stage at Billboard’s Women in Music Awards on March 6, Charli XCX shared with the audience that she was feeling extremely nervous.

She introduced an unreleased track titled “So I,” likely from her upcoming album “Brat,” as a heartfelt homage to a dearly missed individual, hinting at her late friend and collaborator Sophie.

The song, which draws inspiration from Sophie’s 2017 piece “It’s Okay To Cry,” serves as Charli’s expression of mourning for Sophie, who tragically passed away in 2021 at 34 due to an accidental fall.

“So I” lyrically navigates Charli’s sorrow, reminiscing about moments of declined invitations that she now regrets. The collaboration history between Charli and Sophie includes hits like “Vroom Vroom,” while Sophie was also celebrated for her groundbreaking solo album “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides.”

After her heartfelt performance, Charli, receiving the Powerhouse of the Year award, admitted to her reliance on autotune and her nervousness about performing live, in a room filled with music industry leaders and stars such as Katy Perry and Ice Spice.

The event, hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, was a spectacle of rapid-fire performances and musical excellence, featuring acts like Monét, NewJeans, and others.

The awards celebrated a diverse group of talents, with NewJeans being named Group of the Year, Kylie Minogue receiving an Icon award, and Karol G making history as the first Latin woman to be named Woman of the Year.

The presence of influential women from across the globe, including presenters like Bebe Rexha and Katy Perry, underscored the evening’s theme of female empowerment.

Snow Tha Product highlighted the significance of female collaboration in the industry, sharing her positive experience with a female manager and the unique understanding and support it brought to her career.
