BollywoodFever: At least one person was killed in Florida as Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm late Thursday night. The storm hit near the mouth of the Aucilla River in Florida’s Big Bend area, bringing maximum sustained winds of 140 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed during a press conference that one person in Tampa was killed when a sign fell onto their car during the storm. When Floridians wake up tomorrow morning, we’re going to be waking up to a state where very likely there’s been additional loss of life and certainly there’s going to be loss of property,” DeSantis said.

In addition to the death in Florida, two people in south Georgia were reported dead after a possible tornado struck a mobile home, according to Wheeler County Sheriff Randy Rigdon. Meanwhile, in North Carolina, a tree fell on a home around 5 a.m. Friday, killing one person and critically injuring another.
As of early Friday, Helene had weakened to a tropical storm over Georgia, with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Helene is the eighth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, which has been forecasted to be above average due to record-warm ocean temperatures, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
