Toronto Raptors Player Jontay Porter Receives Lifetime NBA Ban for Gambling Violations
Jontay Porter, a player for the Toronto Raptors, has received a lifetime ban from the NBA due to violations of the league’s strict gambling policies.
The NBA issued a statement on Wednesday detailing the decision, which came after an investigation into Porter’s activities. “A league investigation found that Porter violated league rules by disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, limiting his own participation in one or more games for betting purposes, and betting on NBA games,” the statement explained.
The announcement was also shared on social media by NBA Communications on April 17, 2024.
Since March 25, when the NBA launched its investigation into Porter’s betting irregularities, the 24-year-old has not participated in any games. He was last active on the Raptors’ roster just before their game against the Brooklyn Nets, after which he was removed from the lineup and has not returned since.
