“I was madly in love with him and he treated me like s***,” the 65-year-old superstar recounted with a laugh, according to a fan-captured video shared on X. “I’m just saying, you did, you dogged me, bro. It’s ok, I understand. You were just a boy. But I hope you’ve grown up by now,” she continued, before disclosing, “I am publicly shaming you. Did I say your name yet? His name is Dallas Austin.”

At the time of their collaboration, Madonna was 35 and Austin, a Grammy-winning producer known for hits like Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy is Mine” and TLC’s “Creep,” was 23. Their work together resulted in tracks like “Secret,” “Don’t Stop,” “Survival,” and “Sanctuary.”

Madonna also shared the lengths she went to in an attempt to capture Austin’s affection, “I am telling you, I was so in love with him that I had this house in Miami and I studied with this Santeria. She did all kinds of spells on [Austin] to make you fall in love with me. And not one of them worked. Oh well, your loss.”

Despite the personal turmoil, Madonna described the album’s creation as a “magical experience” and reminisced about the joy of working with musicians to craft new songs daily.

During this period, Madonna had just ended a relationship with Tupac Shakur and was entering a brief romance with Dennis Rodman. Meanwhile, Austin’s romantic life also drew attention as he began dating TLC’s Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas in the early ’90s, later welcoming a son with her in 1997 before parting ways around 2001.

Austin, who has worked with a wide range of artists and on various acclaimed albums and soundtracks, discussed his difficulties moving on from Thomas, especially in relation to the song “Cool,” which he initially wrote for her.

Madonna, after her involvement with Rodman, continued to have high-profile relationships, including with Carlos Leon, with whom she shares a daughter, and British director Guy Ritchie, with whom she has a son. She has been linked to several others in the years following.

Dallas Austin, originally from Columbus, Georgia, has an impressive production portfolio, including work with Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, and on notable film soundtracks. His contributions to the music industry have earned him significant accolades, including a Grammy win.
