Despite managing her multiple sclerosis effectively, Selma has faced challenges with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a condition impacting connective tissues, leading to overly flexible joints and delicate skin. Unlike others who stretch to alleviate muscle tension, Selma, the Hellboy actress, highlighted her struggle, revealing, “The Ehlers-Danlos will make me really, really, really stiff cause I’ll pull my muscles too easily.”

Acknowledging the chronic nature of her condition, the 51-year-old opened up about the persistent pain she experiences, emphasizing empathy for others facing similar struggles: “I hurt all the time. I say that for you people that hurt also. Like, I get it. And for all of us just aging, it hurts.”

Despite the fluctuating nature of her symptoms, Selma remains optimistic, sharing her awareness that healing can be a non-linear process. “I’m doing well,” she reflected, admitting to feeling tired. While she maintains a positive outlook, Selma candidly expressed, “I don’t know if I’ll ever have the coordination or balance or stamina that I want to.”

Remaining grateful and acknowledging the challenges, Selma continues to navigate her health journey with resilience. She candidly shared, “Still lucky. Still grateful. Still okay. But it’s still a bummer.”

Since her diagnosis, the Legally Blonde actress has been a vocal advocate for disability awareness, collaborating with groups like the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America. Reflecting on the importance of visibility, she emphasized, “Visibility matters for the disabled. Well, visibility matters for everyone. You have to show that you’re still alive.”
