Bollywood Fever: A devastating incident occurred Friday morning in north-central Nigeria when a two-story school building collapsed during classes, resulting in the deaths of 22 students. The collapse of the Saints Academy college in Plateau state’s Busa Buji community has triggered a frantic search for more than 100 individuals trapped in the rubble.
The disaster struck shortly after students, many of whom were 15 years old or younger, had arrived for their morning classes. Initial reports indicated that 154 students were trapped in the debris. Plateau police spokesman Alfred Alabo later confirmed that 132 students had been rescued and were receiving treatment for their injuries in various hospitals. Sadly, 22 students lost their lives in the tragedy, contrary to earlier local media reports which had cited at least 12 fatalities.
The scene outside the school was one of sorrow and desperation, with dozens of villagers gathering, some in tears and others offering their assistance. Excavators worked tirelessly to sift through the debris from the part of the building that had collapsed. One distraught woman was seen wailing and trying to approach the rubble, only to be held back by others.

Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency swiftly deployed rescue and health workers, along with security forces, to the scene to aid in the search and rescue operation.
“To ensure prompt medical attention, the government has instructed hospitals to prioritize treatment without documentation or payment,”
Plateau state’s Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashoms
The state government attributed the collapse to the school’s “weak structure and location near a riverbank,” and urged other schools with similar structural issues to close immediately to prevent further tragedies.
Building collapses have become alarmingly frequent in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, with more than a dozen incidents recorded in the last two years. These disasters are often blamed on inadequate enforcement of building safety regulations and poor maintenance practices.
