The Atlanta Falcons regained the lead against the Eagles on Monday Night Football with a 42-yard touchdown by Darnell Mooney, exposing Philly’s secondary once again.
BollywoodFever: On a play that echoed past struggles, the Atlanta Falcons seized the lead over the Philadelphia Eagles heading into the fourth quarter of Monday Night Football.
The pivotal moment came on a 42-yard touchdown catch-and-run by Darnell Mooney, giving Atlanta a 15-10 lead.
The drive began with Kirk Cousins converting a 4th-and-4 with an 8-yard pass to Kyle Pitts.
Moments later, Mooney took a short pass, breaking free after Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson missed a key tackle and overran the play.
Mooney dashed through Philly’s secondary before somersaulting into the end zone, rekindling memories of the Eagles’ defensive collapse at the end of last season.
The Eagles, who started the 2023 season 10-1, struggled late last year, including a devastating 32-9 Wild Card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where their secondary was picked apart.
Earlier in the night, Philadelphia held Atlanta’s offense in check until Mooney’s game-changing play. While Jordan Love threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles’ season-opening win over the Green Bay Packers in Brazil, the defense now finds itself in familiar territory, trailing by five points as they head into the final quarter.
