Paramount+ Greenlights Australian Supernatural Thriller Playing Gracie Darling for 2025

Paramount+ partners with Screen Australia for the original supernatural thriller Playing Gracie Darling, set to debut in 2025. Starring Morgana O’Reilly, the series explores a mysterious disappearance.

BollywoodFever: Paramount+ has announced its latest international original drama, Playing Gracie Darling, a six-hour supernatural thriller set to debut in 2025.

Produced by Curio Pictures in partnership with Screen Australia and Screen NSW, the series promises to captivate audiences with its mix of mystery, supernatural elements, and emotional depth.

Created and written by Miranda Nation (Undertow), the show is directed by Jonathan Brough (Rosehaven).

The ensemble cast is led by Morgana O’Reilly (The White Lotus, Season 3) as Joni, alongside Rudi Dharmalingam (Wakefield), Celia Pacquola (Rosehaven), Annie Maynard (Upper Middle Bogan), and Anne Tenney (The Castle).

The story follows the mysterious disappearance of teenage Gracie Darling during a séance 27 years ago.

In the present day, local children play a game inspired by the tragic event, but when another girl vanishes, the long-buried mystery resurfaces.

O’Reilly’s character, Joni, a child psychologist, returns to her hometown to confront her past and find the truth behind her best friend Gracie’s disappearance.

Teaming up with local sergeant Jay (played by Dharmalingam), Joni must face her fears as Gracie’s sister Ruth (Pacquola) relives her trauma when her daughter goes missing under similar circumstances.

Morgana O’Reilly expressed her excitement about portraying Joni, calling her character “complex and paradoxical.” She praised the series’ scripts, saying, “Joni is haunted by ghosts from both the past and present… I can’t wait to explore this world.”

Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner, executive producers from Curio Pictures, hailed Nation’s story as a unique blend of genres, offering a mix of mystery thriller, family drama, and coming-of-age elements. Screen Australia and Screen NSW also expressed their enthusiasm for the series, calling it a fresh and captivating addition to Australia’s TV landscape.

Produced by Curio Pictures, with Sony Pictures Television handling international distribution, Playing Gracie Darling is expected to appeal to audiences both in Australia and globally. Additional casting announcements are expected soon, with the series slated for a 2025 premiere.
