The Jam’s Bruce Foxton Steps Back from Music Due to Health Issues
Bruce Foxton, former bassist of The Jam, announces a temporary retirement from music following an urgent hospital procedure. The 68-year-old hopes to return after recovery.
Bollywood Fever: Bruce Foxton, the renowned bassist of The Jam, has announced a temporary hiatus from music after being rushed to the hospital for an urgent procedure. The 68-year-old, who has been performing with From the Jam since the iconic band’s split in 1982, shared the news with fans via a heartfelt statement on Facebook.
Foxton revealed that his health has been deteriorating over the past few years, leading to this sudden hospitalization. “As a lot of you know, my health has not been good for the past few years, and the latest news is that I have had to go into hospital for an immediate procedure,” Foxton wrote.

Expressing regret, Foxton explained that he would not be able to perform with From the Jam until he has fully recovered. He acknowledged the band’s support over the years, noting that they had encouraged him to take time off to focus on his health. “That time has now come, so I wish the band (my dear friends) continued success until I return,” he added.
While Foxton did not disclose the specific nature of his medical procedure, he assured fans that he hopes to return to the stage in the future. He signed off with optimism, hinting at a potential comeback during the ‘Setting Sons’ 45th anniversary tour, saying, “With God’s will, I will see you all in the not-too-distant future.
Fans quickly flooded social media with messages of support, wishing Foxton a speedy recovery. “Best wishes for a speedy recovery Mr. Foxton,” one fan wrote, while others echoed similar sentiments across various platforms.
Foxton’s departure marks a significant moment for From the Jam, a band that has been keeping the spirit of The Jam alive for the past decade. Foxton, alongside Paul Weller and Rick Buckler, was a key figure in The Jam’s five-year reign before the band’s disbandment in 1982. Afterward, Foxton joined Stiff Little Fingers and later revisited The Jam’s music with From the Jam.
As Foxton steps back to focus on his health, From the Jam is set to continue their scheduled performances, with upcoming shows planned in Alcester and Hunstanton this month, followed by a series of October dates in cities including Southampton, Aylesbury, and Sheffield.
Foxton’s fans and fellow musicians alike are hopeful for his return, eagerly anticipating the day when he can once again grace the stage with his legendary bass lines.
