Los Angeles Chargers Sign Veteran Cornerback Eli Apple

The Los Angeles Chargers bolster their secondary by signing veteran cornerback Eli Apple to their practice squad following a series of injuries to key players.

NFL News, BollywoodFever: The Los Angeles Chargers have added veteran cornerback Eli Apple to their practice squad, addressing a wave of injuries that have depleted their secondary.

Apple, the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, brings experience to the Chargers’ defense as he joins his sixth team in the league.

Apple, who most recently played for the Miami Dolphins, has also had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers

Over the course of his eight NFL seasons, Apple has appeared in 98 games with 82 starts, recording six interceptions, 60 passes defended, and 381 tackles.

The Chargers (3-2) were forced to make roster adjustments after placing starting cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury he sustained during practice.

Additionally, Kristian Fulton strained his hamstring during Sunday’s 23-16 win over the Denver Broncos, leaving the team further shorthanded at the position.

Backup cornerback Ja’Sir Taylor has been inactive for two consecutive games due to a leg injury, and Deane Leonard, typically a special teams player, also suffered a hamstring injury during the Denver game.

As a result, rookies Cam Hart and Tarheeb Still, both fifth-round selections in this year’s draft, stepped up in their first significant playing time. Hart played all 55 defensive snaps, while Still was in for 50.

Apple’s signing provides the Chargers with much-needed depth at cornerback as they look to navigate through the injuries and maintain their playoff aspirations.
