Balllerina’ Starring Ana De Armas Delayed to 2025, ‘The Crow’ Shifts to June 2024
Lionsgate’s “Ballerina,” featuring Ana de Armas, has been rescheduled for a 2025 release. In its place, Rupert Sanders’ remake of “The Crow” will hit theaters on June 7, 2024, while “Ballerina” will now premiere on June 6, 2025.
According to sources within the studio, Chad Stahelski, overseeing the “John Wick” franchise alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee at Thunder Road, is collaborating closely with “Ballerina” director Len Wiseman to enhance the film with additional action sequences.
With “The Crow” ready for release, Lionsgate sees no need to rush “Ballerina” into theaters, especially considering its strong advance tracking numbers.
“Ballerina” tells the story of a skilled assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma.
Alongside Ana de Armas, the cast includes Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus, with Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves.
The film, penned by Shay Hatten based on characters created by Derek Kolstad, is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski.
Meanwhile, the modern reimagining of “The Crow” stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, based on the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.
After Eric and his soulmate Shelly Webster (played by FKA twigs) are murdered, Eric seeks vengeance on their killers, transcending the realms of the living and the dead.
The cast also includes Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger. Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film is written by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, and produced by Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, John Jencks, Samuel Hadida, and Edward R. Pressman.
Additionally, Lionsgate has scheduled an untitled Guy Ritchie film for release on Jan. 17, 2025.
Reuniting Ritchie with stars Henry Cavill and Eiza González from their upcoming film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” (set to release on April 19, 2024), this new project follows two extraction specialists (Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal) as they assist a senior negotiator (Eiza González) in finding an escape route.
Ritchie is both writing and directing the film, with production handled by Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg.
